In just 10 days I’ll be on the east coast (DC then NYC) visiting my sister and vacationing with Alex! In preparation for my week long trip, I’m currently trying to schedule some great eats (preferably affordable and dress-code free) to taste on my food tour.
This is where you guys come in: I NEED RECOMMENDATIONS!
If you have a deliciously unknown hole-in-the-wall or a famous little food spot in the DC or NYC metro areas, please share in the comments below! I will also accept great little shops or other must-visit sights and activities. Ready, set, comment!
Yay! Two of my favorite cities to visit.
I have to say, D.C. is great for sights like the free museums but it’s not so fantastic in the food area. There are good restaurants but nothing amazing. That said, you definitely should go to Georgetown Cupcakes. They have the best cupcakes in the country, I believe.
For Manhattan, there are just too many options. It’s been two years for me, but my favorites are:
The Spotted Pig in Greenwich
Momofuku Ssam Bar in East Village for the pork buns
Boqueria Soho for tapas
And definitely shop at Fish Eddy’s for funky dishware.
If I think of anything else I’ll post again. Otherwise, have a great time!
Here’s a couple of newer New York options that I’ve read about that’s buzzworthy but I haven’t tried first hand so can’t vouch for them: Blue Smoke in Battery Park City and Wong (fancy Chinese) in Greenwich village. And you know Mission Chinese Food opened it’s New York version this week so maybe you can check out whether it’s much different from the Mission District restaurant.
Thanks for the info on Mission Chinese, Ben! I might have to check that out and compare notes
These all sound great! I’m definitely hitting up Momofuku– but maybe the noodle bar. And as far as Fish Eddy’s, I LOVE that store and will definitely be shopping there
I just did two posts on NY. I was just there two weeks ago. Loved Le Bernardin, Maialino, Big Gay Ice Cream, Russ & Daughters, and so much more. Can’t wait to go back again.
Great tips, Carolyn! Thanks
