Last weekend, Alex and I decided to get away from the buzzing city noise and retreat to Clear Lake.
Though definitely not a resort location, we were brought out to Lake County by the most charming Bed & Breakfast in Nice, CA — Featherbed Railroad.
Featherbed Railroad is a delightful, family-owned B&B. They take antique train cabooses and convert them into private suites with themed decor such as Wild West and Wine Country. In addition to the fascinating history and fun themes, this B&B was also memorable for their hospitality. Owners Tony and Peggy prepare a fresh and seasonal breakfast every morning– from German pancakes with fresh local pear, to country-style frittatas with ham and potatoes. With a wall of complimentary DVDs and VHS tapes (yes, they had VCRs!), Alex and I were set for a weekend of hiking, eating, and lounging by the lake.
We took a late afternoon hike at Clear Lake State Park and caught this lovely sunset view of the fields and wineries in Kelseyville.
This was the perfect cure for the gloomy days we’ve been having in San Francisco. It was such a vast change of pace from the city and we even had a surprisingly memorable meal that I will be writing up very soon.
Our weekend was truly nice, and highly recommended for an unpretentious weekend getaway.
